Mt Keen - Sons first

Route: Mount Keen from Glen Esk

Munros: Mount Keen

Date walked: 30/04/2011

Time taken: 5.5 hours

Distance: 17.5km

Just a quick report for this one as I think the Mt Keen reports have been fairly done to death.

I'd decided to get my 6 year old son into the outdoors, too much Nintendo DS and not enough fresh air!

He'd had a sleepover at his grans the previous night and I picked him up at the back of 10 and arrived at Glen Mark after 11. The weather was fine, warm but not hot although there was a breeze gusting occasionally down the glen.

Son takes off down the path, though was swiftly brought to heel for the rest of the journey after taking a tumble over a wee stone. Grazed knees, hands and ego and holding his dads hand for the remainder of the walk but besides that he was fine! :D

The peak comes into view.

At this point there was a little grumbling coming from the wee man, especially at the top was always "just round the next bend", which worked for a while at first but he twigged eventually that I was just trying to gee him on. A few breaks were had on the way up but we made fair time reaching the summit in 3 hours.

Short stuff bags his first munro. Hopefully the first of many! It was windy at the top hence the holding on for dear life!

We got back down to the car in just under 2 and a half hours, so around 5 and a half for total journey time which I think was great going considering. He fell asleep in the car within 10 minutes.
