First proper hill walk since lockdown began. The first section follows the Southern Upland Way almost all of the way to Lowther Hill.

The path was broad and dry, making for pleasant walking.

There were a couple of walkers with their exuberant dog, an attractive Hungarian breed whose exact name escapes me. (? Wire haired Vizsla). They can just be seen in the photograph below. Apart from them, I saw one other walker and about 8 cyclists on the route.

The radar station looms ominously

As I approach I can hear humming and notice there is no birdsong any more

The humming has grown louder and I feel a compulsion to enter the source

Fortunately I snapped out of my reverie. Who knows what evils slumber in the Great Orb?

Excellent views all around, marred by the extensive wind farms, which I haven't included in the photos if I could help it.

The path leaves the road and descends to a bealach before rising to East Mount Lowther. There is a steep sided river valley on the left and spacious views open out on the right. This was my favourite part of the whole walk so don't be tempted to miss it out on your way back down.

The return journey to Wanlockhead was very straightforward. Overall an enjoyable half day in decent weather if you don't mind the obvious man made elements.
