Wonderful walk but the horseflies
Route: Ayre to Cantick Head coastal circuit, South Walls
Date walked: 04/08/2021
Time taken: 3 hours
Distance: 8km
We have done the work a day after pretty bad rain. That maybe wouldn't be such an issue if it wasn't for the fact that the start of the walk is VERY overgrown and it must be the faintest of faint paths. The water drops on the long grass completely soaked us through. Oh how we wishes we had gaiters! But the weather was nice and the views spectacular and after the initial 30 min of wet grass, we got to the higher cliffs and the grass was shorter and it was all good. for about 1.5 hours we admired the scenery but when we were getting closer to the gloup we were attacked by a horde of hungry and angry horseflies. Sadly there was no escape and we have shortened the walk at the Snelsetter and returned to the start point.
