Wildcamp weekend almost on the Arrochar alps

Date walked: 05/04/2015

Distance: 9km

Ascent: 535m

Decided on a nice sedate easter weekend wildcamp rather than a munro bagging trip since the better half has only just had her cast removed after breaking her leg on the decent from Ben A'An (50 metres from the carpark) .

We started at the Glen Croe picnic spot just past Creagdhu, followed the forestry track east up to the transmission tower then took the trail north up towards An t'sron. Once the trail came to an end we picked a nearby spot just above the treeline, not the most ideal spot but there was a stream and some nearby fallen trees for a campfire. Views down Loch Long and over to Ben Lomond were fantastic so we decided it'd do for a few nights. The dog seemed to like it anyway.

Had a quiet night despite it being Sadie the Dane's first time camping, though the camp spot seemed a little more sloped than we thought at first. Kept waking up at the bottom of the tent :? I'd said to Julie that it'd be cool if there was a nice inversion to get some photo's in the morning. Couldn't believe my luck we i crawled out of the tent just before sunrise to see this ...

Just sat and watched the sun come up from the camp site ...

Finally the sun made an appearance. Was really surprised how quickly it warmed up with the sun only just breaching the top of the hills.

Sadie owning the hill and enjoying the sun.

Didn't take long after the sun appearing for this Buzzard to start hovering overhead looking for it's breakfast. I just missed a good shot of it perched on a crag above the camp.... but i'll blame the camera for that one, damned autofocus

We enjoyed our wildcamp 2 course breakfast (living with a chef has it's perks  ) then decided to head round the hill to get a good view of Narnain and the Cobbler. The hillside was just a relentless slog of boggy tussocks which played havock with Julies ankle but gave my new Scarpa's a good waterproofing and ankle support test (which i'm pleased to say they passed with flying colours). The views we're worth her pain  (maybe even mine too if she reads this)

We only went as far as the top of the zig-zag path and turned around to head to the top of An t'sron for a few more photos. Got a few snaps of someone on the top of the needle (at 4:13pm in case it was anyone here  )

Headed straight down to the camp after a few photos as Julies ankle was playing up and she didn't want to stress it too much. Gave us plenty of time to catch the sunset turning the tops of the surrounding hills red. The pics don't do the true colours justice at all :?

The battery was about to die in the camera after 2 days of abuse so i just managed to get one half decent long exposure pic looking down Loch Long in almost pitch darkness.

Overall, a really enjoyable easter weekend away from the office :D
