Lawers 7

Munros: An Stùc, Beinn Ghlas, Ben Lawers, Meall a' Choire Lèith, Meall Corranaich, Meall Garbh (Ben Lawers), Meall Greigh

Date walked: 30/07/2022

Time taken: 7.5 hours

Distance: 22.19km

Ascent: 1645m

A moody morning in the Lawers range saw plenty cloud and drizzly but knowing it was to clear made the thought of bagging 7 Munros a bit easier. We met in the Lawers hotel car park, they charge £5 that you can put in a money box (definitely would not attempt this route without 2 cars). We then took the other car up to the start point just past the Ben Lawers dam and parked in one of the few parking spots.

We set off through the bog and had our feet soaked within 2 minutes, better getting them wet at the start so you don’t need to dance around to find patches of solid ground I guess.

Getting to the first summit of the day, Meall a Choire Leith was fairly straight forward and only the final 20 meters or so was covered in cloud.

Bit of a longer walk to Meall Corranaich dipping in and out of the cloud making us a bit wet, but even with a slight wind it was still a relatively warm day which helped keep spirits high.

Then the first relatively big descent of the day came between Meall Corranaich and Beinn Ghlas. Having done Beinn Ghlas and Ben Lawers before in the winter made re doing them a bit more painful, but the cloud and high winds on both of those summits meant just getting the head down and cracking on to the next one

Having stopped for a 20 minute lunch, we then began to ascend An Stuc, definitely the hardest climb of the day with it being our 5th Munro, but once we got to the top the clouds began to clear which helped keep spirits high.

Rather straight forward for the next 2 Munros, Meall Garbh and Meall Greigh, with some great views of the Lawers range and a long walk back to the hotel with clear views of Loch Tay making for a very worthwhile day out bagging the 7 Lawers.

A worthwhile day out for anyone trying to maximise their numbers on an outing.
