As it was going to be a stunning day I decided to get up early and have breakfast on top of Tarn Rigg Hill. I'd not been up before and I only live round the corner it seemed like a good time to go.

I parked up at a little parking circle at Riggs to be greeted by a small herd of cattle and their calves.




The route up the hill appears to be self evident from here as right in front of you is a track leading up the hill. You can take this track but after a couple of hundred metres you have to hop over the wall and fence; which considering the state of the walls can be a bit dodgy.




So head down the road to Grizedale about 100m, if that, and pop over the cattle grid and turn left immediately at the wall. The track is indistinct but soon becomes pretty obvious. Keep the wall to the left of you as head up the hill and you honestly can't go wrong. Keep on up for an hour or so and you reach the unmarked top of Tarn Rigg Hill.

I decided to pop along the moor to see what the view was like from Knoutberry Haw, Again keeping the wall on your left. I didn't waste the extra twenty minutes or so of my time as the view down towards Sedbergh and the Howgill and the Lakes was a bit stunning. Oddly, only decided to take a picture of Wild Boar Fell though.



Sat down for a bit to eat my breakfast and then retraced my route back, keeping the wall on my right, had a good chat with a local farmer who was repairing a bit of wall and took a nice picture or two down towards the viaduct at Garsdale head.



All in all a very pleasant few hours on a warm morning. Might not be so tempted on a wet Wednesday in January but as a good bit of dry weather exercise and for getting a grand view you can't go wrong.
