Hewitts: Snowdon - Yr Wyddfa

Date walked: 11/10/2021

Time taken: 6.57 hours

Distance: 14.83km

Ascent: 1067m

All in the Video-Movie below The Route Map under the Intro...

October School Holiday in Scotland, we wanted to stay in Kintail / Skye again as every Year before this Autumn time, but rainy Weather forecast for all the week almost everywhere in Scotland made us to change for North Wales - Snowdonia, which is our favourite area from some trips / hikes in the previous years...

It was 5th time climbing Snowdon for me now.

Previous times I used the route via Crib Goch
( Snowdon Horseshoe = 4 the Hewitts / mountains circle ):

The Movie incl. Clouds inversion, Broken Spectre and Route coverage:

Now used Watkin Path, which is ranked as 2nd hardest route for the final tricky exposed, steepy scree ascend and most of ascent overall, with my wife and my 9 y.old daughter Cheyenne. Original plan was to do climb via Crib Goch, me & Cheyenne and meet my wife on the summit of Snowdon as she would use Pyg track, but the Pen - Y - Pass car park new rules forced us to change the plan. Last time I was there the price was £10 for all day, but now is £ 18 up to 8 hours or £40 for all day ( no overnight staying ) and it ONLY MUST BE BOOKED ONLINE IN ADVANCE ! Quickly decided for the Watkin Path as I used the Llanberis Path in 2013 so wanted to do it via different route and enjoy the Water Falls on the way up with my Family...the only concern was the final ascent - exposed scree part which I considered as an potential danger for my Girls as I used the part of Watkin when descending from Snowdon doing the Horseshoe and continuing via Y Lliwedd in 2016, but there was an hope that the part of the route may be improved...
For Cheyenne it was completing all the National Highest Mountains in one Year period as we climbed Scafell Pike in Summer 2020 and Cheyenne climbed Ben Nevis with me on July this Year :D
We were lucky to get some stunning views incl. Cloud inversion and Broken Spectre, nice to see also some Ravens and Seagulls flying around...Wild Mountain Goat and Sheep...it all made great excitement especially for Cheyenne and it was beautiful addition to the Views - Pictures 8) ALL IN THE VIDEO-MOVIE.
It was nice and warm, clear views on the bottom, but very cold wind and sometimes fogy on the top, but we were ready and prepared for it as I checked the weather forecast for the summit which is mostly different from the lower level.
I was really proud of my wife Magdalene and my daughter Cheyenne who managed bravely the final exposed scree steepy ascend and then reached the summit in the cold wind
I did not want them to risk the descending there the same way so I gave them instructions and send them back down via Pyg Track, descended the Watkin myself back to the car park and then pick them up from Pen - Y - Pass. It was a great Family day out, wonderful adventure in North Wales again...Beautiful Snowdonia !
