Dore Head from Wasdale

Date walked: 18/08/2017

Time taken: 6.5 hours

Distance: 6.5km

I took my 11 year old grandson on an adventure walk up the side of Yewbarrow to Dore Head and back. The cloudbase was above us but below the Scafells. The view down Dore Head screes is truly awe-inspiring. The path we used was the upper one which starts towards Bell Rib but then veers across the side of Yewbarrow. A herd of black cattle were seen on the waterfall side of the valley. However, the most impressive discovery was a small frog found living in a stream at around 1500 ft or so.

It could be a small marsh frog - or it could be an amazingly rare or unique frog - The Yewbarrow Frog!

This path is thin and sometimes appears to be just a sheep-track. There is an old sheep pen In the valley bottom near the prominent waterfall.

The number of chocolate bars we ate, is a private matter.
