Wintery afternoon above Pitlochry

Route: Clunie walk, Pitlochry

Date walked: 01/02/2015

Time taken: 3.25 hours

Distance: 11.5km

Ascent: 450m

We had planned to ski this weekend but the roads were closed due to blizzards so decided to for a little wander above Pitlochry instead. Weather was absolutely beautiful with great visibility. We had a lovely time following the way-marked Clunie Walk through the forest and across the moorland west of the town. The dogs found it quite hard going in deep snow, which was knee deep in places.

If going back in the future I would stick to the forestry tracks rather than going on the Rob Roy Way footpath dropping back into Pitlochry as this was absolutely sodden and difficult to pass due to downed trees. Given that everything else was frozen, I can't imagine how bad this path would be in proper wet weather! I think the views were probably better from the forestry track too!
