Corserine and friends
Route: Corserine and the Rhinns of Kells, Forrest Lodge
Corbetts: Corserine
Donalds: Corserine, Meikle Millyea, Milldown
Date walked: 18/06/2017
Time taken: 7 hours
Distance: 16.5km
Ascent: 903m
Five of us, set out from Forrest Lodge on a morning of low cloud cover with no hills visible in any direction, Followed route as described in WH. Path through forrest very boggy but when we emerged onto open hillside the first view of Corserine was brilliant. Good path climbs out of the woods and up into the corrie and a low cloud base meant we got some tantalising views on and off all the way to the cairn marking summit ridge. The top was clear giving a cloud inversion, stunning.
Once the trig point point was reached the views became better and better as all the cloud lifted. The continuation of our route on the Rhinns was obvious and crying out to be trodden. As stated in walk description there is an ATV track visible heading off on ridge and this is followed all the way to top of Millfire. Good views now in all directions and a good look at the Merrick from here.
Ridge continues on easily to top Milldown and then drops down to bealach where the pools looked so inviting as the temperature soared, The last top of Meikel Millyea brings to an end a tremendous ridge walk which we enjoyed to the utmost and as both the weather and the views were excellent we had taken our time to appreciate both. Return to start point is by the ridge down Meikle Lump until a style over fence leading into forrest takes path onto track back to carpark,
