Bach an Eich - Strathconon

Route: Bac an Eich, Strathconon

Corbetts: Bac an Eich

Date walked: 02/04/2017

Time taken: 5.3 hours

Distance: 21.16km

Ascent: 825m

Parked my car in the large car park half way along Loch Beannacharain and Wee Jess and I headed along the road towards Scardroy Lodge at the top of the Loch.

It is a good track up to Corrievuic, which I couldn't make my mind up if the building there was abandoned or not. Down to the substantial bridge over the River Meir and we continued onto a stalkers path head up round towards Coire Mhoragein.

We were lucky enough to nearly trip over a lone deer which was lying enjoying the sunny weather. It didn't stay for long when I heard me. I was glad that I had Wee Jess on her lead.

We slowly made our way up the Coire seeing the zig zag path disappear over Drchad Coire Mhadaidh. I was glad that the previous days had been dry and it was easy to spot just how boggy this Coire would be if it had been raining.

Once on the Bealach we turned left and trudged our way up over the peat hags towards the summit of Bac an Eich. The terrain became easier near the top as it was less boggy and I was glad of the stoney surface near the summit cairn. The wind had picked up a bit so enjoyed the windbreak of the summit cairn.

After a stop to eat and admire the views and the obligatory photos, we continued down heading over rough ground towards the path along Gleann Chorainn. There was no path off the summit so we picked our way carefully down the steep section towards the valley floor and I was delighted to be on our way towards Inverchoran.

Through Inverchoran, stopping to admire the Highland Ponies,

we stuck to the path and were soon walking on the roadway back along the loch to the car.
Loch nearly back to the car

As it was a Sunday there were quite a few day trippers out taking in the beautiful views - Strathconon is a popular place to travel to on a Sunday afternoon.

All in all a good circular route on a good day
