A'Chailleach Southface + Ridge Walk to Am Bodach
Date walked: 13/07/2021
After looking through my Scrambles in Lochhaber book and being keen in photography I decided I would give A'Chailleach (Scramble Grade 3**) a try (Cover picture in my 1985 edition). The weather was perfect and a mate wanted to come as well. We parked at the Etive Beag car park, crossed over into the old road and followed for a view hundred meters.
At the foot of the south face (marked with a big cairn), near the mountain hut we started our approach. Basically all of the rock bands can be avoided if wanted - however I came here for a wee scramble and tried to choose the most appealing "walls" to scramble up. Always great views, particular to the opposite side with the Bidean nam Bian massive. After finally reaching the top, after a short exposed ramp) the terrain flattens and the rest is a plain sailing.
We hiked to the Unnamed top and then returning always along the broad ridge to Am Bodach.
From Am Bodach we descended and had to walk for roughly 500m on the A82 ( most dangerous bit of the whole tour) before we could join again onto the old road and back to the Etive Beag carpark.
The whole trip was roughly 15km and filled a good half day of walking for us.
