Loch Trool
Route: Loch Trool trail, Glen Trool
Date walked: 15/04/2023
Time taken: 3.45 hours
Distance: 12.5km
Ascent: 608m
The drive to Glen Trool itself was amazing and a not too shabby coffee and cake at the visitor centre. Following the directions (green route) wifey and self took this route the full way round the loch. We were highly impressed with the scenery and wildlife we managed to see throughout the day. Many birds and butterflies but we were over the moon when we managed to spot a lizard at the head of the loch. On the way back in the wooded area on the north of the loch before the 2 car parks we saw a bat feeding. These 2 things alone would make anyone jump for joy but the whole walk was excellent, I would highly recommend this route. One major thing though. All of the literature states five and a half miles. We used Gaia GPS and it came out to more like 8 miles (approx). If you are prepared for that though and one or two short steep parts you will enjoy.
