Massan3 Cowal
Route: Beinn Mhor, via Glen Massan
Grahams: Beinn Bheag (Cowal), Beinn Mhór (Cowal), Creag Tharsuinn
Date walked: 19/03/2022
Time taken: 9 hours
Distance: 24km
Ascent: 1900m
Sunny and windy at high level.
Having read a few reports, not found any have the 3 hills in one day. Was not sure if able to cross some forests areas, I plotted the route to test, it worked. The trees are not so tight , quick enough gap to walk through them. Started from road end of glen Massan along the track road to Creag Tharsuinn the first target of the day, thought be too steep along the big gully, managed to walk on the higher right rim in the trees, quick dry under foot and big gaps btw trees , not as steep as I thought, that was the first concern over. The second concern was the descent after Creag Tharsuinn, was easy enough to travers to the fence to avoid the crags then descent along the fence towards the tree lines. The third concern was to get through this Forrest. I walked up and down to try to find a good way to get through but in the end it turned out there’s a big fire break/track all the take you to the road track again, so that was over, quite chuffed. The rest 2 hills are straight forward till the descending route after Beinn Mor again same concer of going through the trees, it went well in the end , again enough gap to go through then on the road track in the wood, and just a long slog on road to get back to the car. Good weather helped, wouldn’t try this on a bad weather.
