A rare day on the Ben
Route: Ben Nevis by the Mountain Path
Munros: Ben Nevis
Date walked: 07/11/2011
Time taken: 5 hours
Distance: 16.5km
Ascent: 1344m
Well this was my first taste of the Ben - and i'll be lucky to get the same views the next time I do it.
I set off from Glen Nevis at 11:15, which left me with roughly 5 hours to get up and down the Ben before the sunset. I actually found this quite tough going, took me around 2hr 45 mins to get to the top and about 2 hours to get down. The mountain path is luxurious by munro standards but as you near the top its all rock, I passed one girl coming down with a pair of trainers on - Clearly not right in the head. I dont think I had quite the experience many people seem to get on the 'tourist route', I only encountered 10 people all day. I even had the summit to myself for 15mins! I tried having lunch in one of the ruins at the top, but I must say t'was rather nippy. Sandwich devoured in haste I set about getting some piccies. The views were absolutely stunning, It doesnt get much better for me. Unfortunatley my camera was still in edinburgh so I had to make do with mothers vintage model, nevertheless I think iv managed to capture the views to a certain extent. Here's some of my finer images of the day..
We took the route that goes down the south side of Loch Ness, the B621 I think, this first pic is a wee sample of the scenery on offer on this road. Some tremendous panoramas at times on this road.
