A morning 'scramble' up Blaven

Route: Blà Bheinn (Blaven)

Munros: Blà Bheinn

Date walked: 13/10/2021

Time taken: 3.5 hours

Distance: 10.97km

Ascent: 881m

After a restless night at the Air B&B i was staying at (too much coffee), I finally dragged myself out of my bed at 9am, took a look out the window and the slopes of Blaven and decided that it didn't look too cloudy  how i would be wrong!

A quick drive to the carpark and I set off along the well built track, which is maintained by the John Muir Trust (thanks) and make excellent time up to the 'big boulder'.

Now i had been told a number of things:

1) As this guide states if you hit the boulder you've gone too far go back! Then turn right.

2)Hit the boulder then turn right.

3)Go past the boulder then turn right

I chose the middle option and followed on of the many paths from the said boulder, in pea soup I hasten to add!

Que me scrambling up the side of the mountain thinking to myself, this is some 'short easy scramble' :-?

Still going through pea soup, I do a bit of 'check nav' using my GPS, which i hate using but needs must, and I worked out that i was a good 50-75 meters off path. After some fine adjustments I finally broke the back of the slope and ended up at the cairn guiding the summit path.

A short bimble along this path and I was at the top, posing for the standard summit selfy, I hung about for 20-30 mins in hope that the view would clear - no luck.

Back along the summit path and after descending the 'short easy scramble' I notice straight away the path I should of taken up.

Following this path - out the thick of the pea soup and past a couple of afternoon hikers I made my way down the mountain and back to my car in relative short time. Oh with sunburn as well. Don't know how or when that happened!

Another one ticked off, pity the weather wasn't great today (14th) to crack a couple of the Cullin's it was back home to Glasgow - nursing a car with knackered brake discs (you may have heard me screeching through Glen Coe  )
