12-day October CPT (incl a return to FW for lighter boots)

Date walked: 02/10/2018

Time taken: 12 days

Distance: 380km

Wish I’d taken my chances with the midges rather than the 2.10.18-13.10.18 lack of daylight, yellow weather warning wind, and heavy rain! Nonetheless a PHENOMENAL walk. My friend pulled out at Shiel Bridge, so walked the majority alone, which is another thing I would not advise: forces you to be brave but I can still feel the sense of worry that begins at 5 as darkness draws in and you don’t know where you’ll camp or the mist has descended on the pass you are to cross and you begin losing faith in your compass bearing.

Do NOT wear heavy winter boots. Mine gave me the biggest blisters I’ve ever had by Glenfinnan, forcing a return to Fort William to buy lighter ones. Trail shoes with solid soles may even have been adequate.

In all: a truly wondrous experience. Real, unadulterated wild.
