Hill of the Wangie

Date walked: 06/04/2024

Time taken: 1.5 hours

Distance: 5.27km

Ascent: 100m

After reading gld73’s report we decided to do Hill of the Wangie from the west. Late breakfast, late decision, and an hour or more from home amid the brewing Storm Kathleen made this seem a good choice for an afternoon walk. Forestry operations stopped only a week ago, so we had no restrictions on our walk. Parked in the bell-mouth of the track beside a cottage. Followed the forestry track until we were just south of the trig point as shown on the OSmap. We weren’t quite sure about the point we should start climbing through the trees, but noticed a small but definite footpath going upwards, and followed this up to the flat summit area, now devoid of trees. This path stopped at a pile of stones, wood and dirt so we looked around to see the trig point over to our left. A light lunch break at the cairn, then we returned by our upward route. And it was pretty windy!!
From there we made a quick visit to the trig point at Burgiehill, adding a further 36 m of climbing to our day.😀.
