100% sunshine and a melted Tunnocks

Route: Monadh Liath Munros: Càrn Dearg, Càrn Sgulain & A' Chailleach

Car park not busy which was a surprise. Already feeling hot at 10am so short sleeved shirt will be enough. Sprayed myself with sun tan lotion then donned my hat and booted up ready to go. It will be a drain walking in conditions like this for me, I sweat a lot at the best of times. Sure enough, by the time I got to the river crossing I was more interested in drinking it rather than crossing it. I had a good drink here, I kept my flask for the top. The going had been boggy once the track had been left behind. What 4 tractor tyres were doing up here, not sure, but once passed it was dodging the wet bits.

Over the Allt it was a bit better going till the peat hags. Weaving about to get the most favorable path it was a relief to leave them behind.

The final climb is not too far but still a joy to see the summit cairn. Looking all around up here I could only see 100% sunshine, not a cloud in the sky. Took my photos having a look around the top.
Checked out the path to the next Munro, but really not keen, what a boring hill, I’m only interested in the photos. I decided to give it a miss. I sat down in the shade of the cairn and got my lunch out. The plastic piece box was red hot, it had been facing the sun in my rucksack all the way up here. I opened it and immediately I touched my tunnocks realized it had melted badly. Put it in the shade to see if that would help while I munched my butteries and emptied my flask. I had to lick the chocolate off the wrapper of the tunnocks before washing it down with a juicy plum. A bit of a sun bathe after that.

It was hot heading back down, this time my face getting the sunshine, not my rucksack. Stopped at the Allt again and filled up my flask. Drank most of it and refilled it again. I kept it handy walking back and I had it finished before reaching the car. A can of juice in the car disappeared when I got back. Taking my boots off was a joy. Sat on the car boot swinging my bare feet to cool them down. That’s this car park done. Need to find new routes.
