The Whangie
Route: The Whangie, Kilpatrick Hills
Date walked: 09/04/2011
Time taken: 2 hours
Distance: 2.89km
Ascent: 173m
Just a wee outing as we were late in getting out and hadn't any routes planned. Started out with the sky quite overcast but the sun was trying to break through. it made the temperature perfect for walking, cool and refreshing breezes but still warm enough for a t-shirt. Ground was still pretty boggy underfoot but the path is very easy to follow. Taking the walk at a very leisurely pace we arrived at the Whangie in time for lunch and just in time for the sun to break through and bathe us in warm sunlight. The rock formations are fascinating and there were a couple of rock climbers getting some routes in, fair made me want to dig out my old harness and boots for a wee scramble! Lunch over with we went back the route we came but at a faster pace. Got back to the car in time for the rest of the clouds to have burned off and the temperature to have risen. Beautiful day and a very pleasant walk.
