Glen Ogle Trail, Lochearnhead (reversed)

Route: Glen Ogle Trail, Lochearnhead

Date walked: 01/01/2013

Time taken: 4.5 hours

Distance: 10.5km

Parked at the (still free) car park opposite the Watersports Centre in Lochearnhead. Toilets were closed for 4 weeks around new year, re-opening mid January 2013 "weather permitting" (whatever that means)!!

Due to so much rain this past December (2012), and other reports such as "likely to be wet under-crotch",
"the path has been lost in mudslides", chose to check out at least the start of the reverse route first - leaving the option (if it was too boggy) of returning to the start and walking the former rail track. It was very wet under foot - almost continuously; but never very deep. Nowhere was it near the top of walking boots (using a walking pole as a probe in some places). There are more than few burns to cross, but they have stony beds and there's always a chioce of crossing points to suit the flow of recent rainfall.

Taking the NE path was a great way to start the walk.
Starting this way we got to walk in some glorious winter sunshine, which was in shadow by late afternoon
when we walked back along the former rail track. I suspect the former rail track is always in shade, especially during winter. The views along the glen are far superior, and of course you can't see the viaduct
if you're walking on it.

The route seems to have recovered from the landslips of which so much is made in the Walkhighlands description. They did happen nearly 10 years ago. It is also well waymaked.
