Stob Ban - Grey Corries
Route: Stob Ban (Grey Corries)
Munros: Stob Bàn (Grey Corries)
Date walked: 30/01/2011
Distance: 20km
Left Perth, two cars full of eager walkers as our last planned walk was cancelled.
Weather forecast not promising, however no prolonged rain/snow and not too much wind.
We quickly reached the carved figure of the minister.
The path to the bothy was good underfoot and made progress easy
The walk in ( 6km ) quickly passed as we saw the bothy.
Our eyes were drawn to Stob Ban in the distance to the right of the bothy
We gained height quickly, with a quick look back into the Glen
The path at this point was not too steep, although looking to the summit we could see the gradient was about to increase sharply
It became very steep, and the thin layer of snow on the ice proved too difficult without crampons.
Not much view at the summit.
We were going to bag another hill or two, but with the cloud low and time against us, we decided to descend back to the bothy.
As we descended we dropped below the cloud and the beautiful views re-appeared
We reached the bothy after sliding and practising ice axe arrests
Looking back to the bothy
The long walk out took forever

- Ideal day out: A short walk-in followed by a steep ascent of a craggy ridge surrounded by mountains, lochs, lochans, and forestry. Ideally in a remote area with only native creatures scurrying about.A gentle descent is alway appreciated. Not too scary, a little exposure for excitment and some easy scrambling to add some challenge.
