Thank you to weaselmaster for the tip on parking at Learney - it certainly made the walk much more manageable for the Little Legs 3.
We parked in the quarry near point 298 / Learney on the OS map then followed the forest road up through the plantation. The path was simple to spot and easy to follow all the way up to the top. There were a couple of false summits and a random little cairn that distracted the kids for a moment or two. It also disappointed them when it wasn't the top!
The views to Upper Deeside were amazing. The best I have experienced to date albeit Lochnagar was a little faint in the clouds.
The recent dry conditions made the walk much easier with only a couple of boggy bits on the way up. There is a definite way from the path across to the cairn near the top - this part was by far the boggiest. The bog rating would definitely be a 3 if underfoot conditions were wet.
In the future we would probably stop at the smaller cairn on the right hand side as the views there are the best. The top does not offer much apart from bagging another top!
