Cruach Ardrain
Route: Cruach Àrdrain and Beinn Tulaichean
Munros: Beinn Tulaichean, Cruach Àrdrain
Date walked: 22/09/2019
Time taken: 5.5 hours
Distance: 14km
Ascent: 846m
Parked in the glen Falloch off road, arrived just before 9am and we were lucky to get a space !
set off up the track, then veered left to take us down to the footbridge...….. which is no longer there! Water was fairly low, so no problem stepping stone across, though I imagine it would be impassable if high water or in spate.
went up the side of the forestry plantation keeping to the fence, fairly boggy even with the weather being dry. Reached the start of grey height, then proceeded along the path, even if it was fairly indistinct in places. Passed the small lochans to the east of Meall Dhamh, up and down a few rocky, scrambly dips, then we were on the north west flank of Cruach Ardrain itself. Quite a steep pull up to the saddle connecting Ardrain and Beinn Tulaichean, but just a short walk over a false top to the summit itself. Great views all round, welcome soup and rolls.
Very much pushed for time, so made the decision to leave Beinn Tulaichean for another day, even though it is an easy walk along the saddle, cut back down to the start of Meall Dhamh / Grey Height, then descended west following the Rough Burn to the river Falloch. crossed over, then made the path to take us back to the car park.
One of those days that leaves you looking forward to the next one.
