Moncreiff Hill the very easy way

Sub 2000s: Moncreiffe Hill

Date walked: 17/01/2015

Time taken: 1.5 hours

Distance: 3.81km

Ascent: 196m

We parked up at the Tay car park on the north side of Moncreiff Hill. The track up to the Earn car park is a muddy, affair where some of the potholes are not avoidable.

There is a lovely track up the hill ideal for young families or a quick walk to blow away the cobwebs.

Shortly after the gate into the trees there are some sculptures of deer hidden in the trees on the right.

We took a left fork just after some posts which had wildlife carvings on them.

Further up there is a seat in the shape of a dragonfly just before some fallen trees.

We found another carved animal but didn't investigate it too closely as we were avoiding plenty of solid ice on the path.

Further up the hill forts are signed posted. We chose to go to the highest point first Moredun Fort. This could be a good viewpoint to show those with little legs the hills that they will climb as they grow up and start on the bigger hills. Unfortunately low mist / cloud decided that we wil see the full view on another day. Nevertheless we had a fine view of Perth, also over the River Earn and the traffic whizzing below on the M90.

As the Moncreiff Hill Fort was a short distance away it was well worth dropping slightly before a wee climb to the top of the Fort. The cloud had cleared so we could see the Ochils and much more distant snowy mountains.

Apart from the ice it was only a quick hop, skip, jump and stroll back down to the car. Noted as a good walk to let the grandkids run free and explore!
