Gleann Lichd and Bealach na Sgairne circuit
Where to go is always a problem, so many ideas, so many plans, and places.
It should be easy, but it always seems to be a last minute, weather search, and map fest.
I made it a more difficult decision by ruling out any summits, on the grounds that
So purely by luck we set off from Morvich on a misty morning with great promise.
Lambing season was in full swing, and the lady shepherd was hard a work, delivering extra rations to the sheep up Glen Lichd. We were very respectful about standing off the track, and Murphy behaved beautifully.
By the time we reached Glen Lichd house the shepherd had become quite friendly, complimenting Murphy on his behaviour, and asking about our plans.
It turned out that the ladies grandfather was the last person to run Camban as a farm. She also spoke of doing this entire walk with her sister many years ago.
A most uplifting conversation.
The incline starts here, but nothing exceptional, and the path is still good.
We were lucky with the views, and the hanging mist seemed to help with the photos.
The gradient soon eases and Camban bothy eventually comes into view. I remembered to silently think of the shepherds grandfather. (Wish I had asked his name)
Not far now to the first of only two route finding decisions, turn left at the next glen.
Thats proper navigation!
Not sure but I think this is a new bridge?
Things do get a bit softer underfoot in places from here to Bealach a Sgairne
but the river is beautiful and the whole area feels quite remote (By domestic standards)
Approaching the Bealach a Sgairne is a "Gates of Mordor" experience, and worth the walk just to see it.
Looking back is a great view too.
All too soon we were looking at a descent back to the car
It really is a worthwhile day out,
highly recommended
cheers
