Creag nan Gobhar - South Laggan
Date walked: 30/03/2019
Time taken: 3 hours
Distance: 8km
Ascent: 500m
Just a quick walk up Creag nan Gobhar today. It is a 500m hill that rises above Loch Oich. From the A82 there are two approaches, either through the South Laggan forest, or to go along the Great Glen Way by Loch Oich for a while and then head straight up the side of the hill. The former has the advantage of being on forest tracks for a while, but then trackless through the forest for a while and then across some wet lumpy heather to the summit. The latter way is much more direct, but also far steeper, but the ground is drier. Also the views are better once you get above the trees. I went up via the direct route up the hill, and then back down through the forest. I headed straigh down a newly cleared section, however it might eb advisable to stick to the forest tracks, it was pretty rough.
The restoration of a small piece of track and the platform at the old Invergarry railway station. It is located just behind the Great Glen Water Park
The point at which I left the GGW to head up the hill
Loch Oich and Sron a' Choire Ghairbh from the side of the hill
Looking north along Loch Oich
From the summit looking south towards Loch Lochy
The final walk down the hill through newly cleared forest. The poles mark a buried pipe for the new hydro plant.
