there and back - went wandering too, lunch!

Route: Scourie to Tarbet

Date walked: 18/06/2021

Time taken: 8 hours

Distance: 5.5km

If in Scourie, recommend this sojourn, amazed this is only its second review as a easily accessed wilderness walk: we met no one. Our day was dry and sunny with stunning views to Handa and dry underfoot, yes if previous rain it would be more boggy. Very mixed terrain which undulates a fair bit and varies from "field of ferns" to small scrambles on the gneiss. Lots of dragonflies to see.
We dead reckoned this walk with OS for guidance and used the cairns which were in decent condition although sometimes hard to spot. Our wanderings off route added about 90 mins but no dramas.
Lunch at Tarbet highly recommended, booking is best, fresh seafood - Shorehouse Restuarant. No dogs on the rib to Handa so thats for next time.
On return to Scourie, just as you start decending off the hill, ignore the very old finger posts at the large bank of whin (gorse) bushes to the west of the scottish water building, bear north of both of them, the posts point you to what are (now) cow tracks through the whins, maybe this was the path many years ago, its still on the OS!
