Spent a good day climbing Braeriach, my son and I had hoped to get up this one for some time. found the car park at Whitewells easy enough, although it was full and we had to park on the grass nearby, where there is plenty of space.

The path was easy walking and the route up through the old pine woods is lovely.

Approaching the Larig Ghru you start to feel the scale of this climb, everything in this area is really big!! The walking up to the mouth of the Larig Ghru is straightforward. The path from there goes up fairly steeply up onto the ridge of Sron na lairige, and only after some distance do the views start to reveal themselves.

Once up onto the ridge that leads to the summit the views are simply amazing and this crescent corrie is spectacular, with The massive Cairn Toul facing you and Carn A Mhaim to the left and of course Macdui ever present on this walk

The summit of Braeriach is on a rough crescent ridge and is fairly flat, with a serious drop to the south. easy walking and a decent cairn at the top.

We walked over to the falls where the source of the river Dee cascade over the ridge, hard to get a good view (you can see it better from Angels peak)

We then following the map in walkhighlands headed down towards loch Einich. I should say at this point, there is no path. This is not helped by the fact that this is steep bouldery terrain and its about 2 hours of decent without a track anywhere in sight, and its tough on the legs, it also leads you nicely into a bog where we both got our feet wet in deep mud/peat

The path from the valley floor here is about 4 miles to the carpark and its a straight forward walk with good views back up the valley to Sgor Gaoith and back to Braeriach.

All in all its a long hike this one, we measured it over 18 miles. some excellent scenery and the views up on the ridge at the summit are some of the best in the Cairngorms. If there had been a track on the initial descent I would have loved this climb form start to finish. As it was it was pretty hard on the legs, but excellent climb just the same!
