Nae path fae Mullach

Route: Mullach Clach a' Bhlàir

Munros: Mullach Clach a' Bhlàir

Date walked: 19/09/2017

Time taken: 5 hours

Distance: 22.5km

Ascent: 785m

Did this on Tuesday (19/09/2017) and followed the route as described in Walkhighlands. That is the third option "descend southwest down the Druim nam Bo ridge. Skirt round the north side of Lochan nam Bo before continuing southwest." I thought this would be a very scenic walk down "a well-engineered old path, somewhat overgrown zigzags down northwest, crossing the Allt nam Bo before plunging down amidst the magnificent Scots pines of Upper Glen Feshie"

The added bonus is passing the Ruigh Aiteachain bothy. (This refurbishment is looking very good and someone working on the exterior did say it might be finished in a few weeks). I have thought about staying at the bothy and completing Beinn Bhrotain and Monadh Mor.

While there is a fairly decent path till you get to Creag na Gaibhre and from here south west is now completely overgrown. No well engineered and slightly overgrown path. I met another walkhighland walker called Harris who was more than a little bit upset. Harris and his wife had thought to do the route in reverse as it looked less steep than Coire Caol. It was a very hard slog through the heather, boulders and other steep obstacles.

The good news for Harris (this was his route down) and other walkers is the path up Coire Caol is excellent and though a bit steep, one of the best paths I have walked up to a Munro.

I did wonder why you have to now sign a disclaimer when you download a gpx from the walkhighland site. Suppose things change and it is hard to keep all the routes up to date. If you are planning on doing this route, then stay clear of the south west walk off. It will be trickier than you plan.
