Beinn a' Chaorainn

Munros: Beinn a' Chaorainn (Cairngorms)

Date walked: 03/05/2010

Time taken: 5 hours

Took advantage of the bank holiday and a favourable forecast to climb Beinn a' Chaorainn. It had been annoying me for some time as I would always question why I had not climbed it before and was the only red dot amongst a vast sea of blue dots in my munro profile.
Biked in from Linn of Dee making good time to Derry Lodge. I took the east track up Lairig an Laoigh, which was slow going, some of the drainage channels on the path are more like elephant traps, not nice especially on a bike with no suspension.

Eventually ditched the bike at the Glen Derry flats, leaving only about 4k's to walk to the summit. Weather was true bank holiday style with bright sunshine quickly followed by snow showers. Winter is far from over in the Cairngorms and enjoyed the snowy panorama of the surrounding peaks.

A cold North wind mean't I didn't hang around at the top, quickly retracing my steps back to my bike. Cycled back out the the on other side of the river, not so many elephant traps!

What a difference a bike makes 5 hours to complete 30+km without that weary feet feeling.
