Beinn Leamhain
Sub 2000s: Beinn Leamhain

Time taken: 2.5 hours
Distance: 5km
Ascent: 510m
A low cloud day means a low hill so this appeared to be an appropriate hill to tackle. On the face of it this hill lacked a bit of appeal, pathless, steep and around 500 metres of ascent much of it looking at the OS map appeared to be very steep. Throw in a bit of clag, some heavy rain showers and a bit of a breeze.
However this was our final day in the area so off we went and it has to be said we were pleasantly surprised.
At Sallachan, take the track on the south side of the river Gour and almost immediately try to find the least boggy bit of very boggy ground on the left hand side to head towards the corner post of a fence beside a tin shed. If you're lucky you might be able to make out a path heading slightly right from this point. If you have found the path it should take you to a gate 975 627. From there on it's a case of following your nose and looking ahead, the path actually keeps going and basically avoids all difficulties. Here's a couple of grid references of where we followed the path, 973 626, 968 626. It then followed the tops of the next 3 watercourses shown on the OS map which takes you up to about the 400 metre mark from where it's easy going to the trig point and beyond it to the summit.
A better than expected climb up this fine "little" hill and even the fine Scottish weather couldn't spoil the views.
