- Ideal day out: Woken by oystercatchers after a bivvy somewhere on the north-west coast, strip off and wade in for a chilly morning swim. Then leisurely porridge and coffee, looking out at the birds. Pack a day sack and head out on a Grade two scramble route with a buddy who loves it as much as I do (or more). Arrive back in the golden hour and run straight into the sea to wash off the sweat of the day then set the stove up by the shore, looking out at the mountains as the sun sets behind them. Fall asleep under twinkling stars.
