Wild camp 2: Whitelees

Date walked: 02/08/2017

Distance: 3km

Aftrr the success of my first wild camp (see the Kipatrick Hill post in General), my daughter persuaded me to wild camp for a second night. With other things on we chose a short journey to the Carrot Farm entrance to Whitelees Windfarm.

After pitching up at 5pm and leaving at 8.30am the next morning we saw nobody. Nobody. The solitude was incredible and a great introduction to wild camping for an 11 year old.

The downsides: being amongst the trees meant views were limited; the midges were out

To say we had great fun is an understatement - marshmallows on a fire (I checked with the Ranger), no rain, great games of Gin Rummy, never ending questions (Dad, do you think fish drink water?) and a good sleep.

Collecting water from the burn - yes you have to do it!!!
