Glen Lyon Horseshoe

Date walked: 27/07/2013

Time taken: 7 hours

Distance: 17km

Started out from car park behind the phone box around 7.30, met a guy from Dumfermline although his accent seemed a tad Geordie to me. First mistake was to walk right into somebodies garden directly opposite the phone box. Mistake rectified we set off, I went anticlockwise so we split up at the pylon. Path was ok at first but clag was upon me and the ferns were quite high so lost the path but my compass kept me right. Came across the stalkers path from the right and took this to Meall na Aigheans summit, (need to figure out the photo thing).
From there made my way round the horseshoe although I wish these pointless cairns were removed as I made my second mistake thinking I had completed the 4 when in fact i had only got as far as Meall Garbh, a guy I met heading clockwise put me right, he had lost a strap from his rucksack (sorry mate didn't find it). I should have known as I knew there was a trig point on Carn Gorm but thought it was buried under rusty fence posts, lol.
Finally got to Carn Gorm summit and there was the elusive trig point lying on its side (maybe it will get fixed) and that was some more experience gained so will pay more attention to surroundings and map in future. All in all great weather pleasant walks and my wee springer spaniel (Jimmy) never complained once. :D
