Lundie Craigs
Route: Lundie Craigs circuit, Sidlaws
Date walked: 27/12/2012
Time taken: 2 hours
Distance: 8km
Ascent: 135m
This is a walk which i know very well, as i grew up on the farm at Tullybaccart. There doesn`t seem to be any reports on this walk so i thought i would stick one up here. Since getting a dog in the summer i never seem to be away from this place.
So anyway we start our walk at the carpark on the Dundee - Coupar Angus road, (there is usually a burger van there most weekends), and head off in the farm road. Take the road right at the farm, up the hill. Follow the good road all the way to Ledcrieff Loch. Excellent views over to Scheihallion can be seen on a clear day. Just before you come to the loch, the road takes a turn to the left past a gate. Take this road and follow to the top of the hill until you come to a sharp U bend in the road to the left. Another road goes off to the right, up again and through a gate, go through the gate and follow the still good track to the top of the hill where you can see the trig point.
On a clear day the views from up here are great, with views over the Strathmore Valley on one side and over Dundee and Fife in the other direction. But not on this occasion unfortunately.
From the mast there is a gate to go through which will take you along a fence, but on the cliff edge side so be carefull here if attempting. It is a straight forward walk along the top of the Craigs with a small decent where you have to hold on to the fence, and then along the final stretch of the top edge until you reach a small gate. You go through this and follow the path which will take you down through some trees to the edge of the loch. From here you retrace your steps back to the carpark at the main road.
