Black Rock & Taymouth Trails

Route: Drummond Hill and Black Rock, Kenmore

Date walked: 20/09/2022

Time taken: 1.5 hours

Distance: 7km

Ascent: 290m

As suggested, we did the combination of the blue (Black Rock) and red (Taymouth) waymarked trails.

Note that the longer Caisteal MacTuathal Trail, which is a circuit of Drummond Hill and waymarked with stone boar carvings, is currently closed due to damage sustained in Storm Arwen (November 2021).

The walk is very well signed but the climb was rather steeper and, in the second half more up and down, than we'd expected. The highlight was definitely the view from the Black Rock viewpoint. If we'd just done the red trail, the outing would have been rather a disappointment, peaceful though walking through the forest was. The path was not muddy where the description suggested it would be. It was a little muddy further on down the return track which I guess would be much worse after a wetter spell than we've had this summer.
