Great Glen Way
Date walked: 05/04/2012
Time taken: 6 days
Distance: 117km
This is our third proper long distance walk so far (two fairly unfit 40 and 50 somethings) and we loved it very much. It would make an excellent introduction for anyone thinking of giving long distance walking a try. It is so easy to navigate you barely need a map and there are no excessive climbs (although toward the end you will get your heart rate up a little) - but the last day is challenging in length and so a great sense of achievement to be had. And the views are outstanding, jaw droppingly good at every turn. Plus, even over Easter weekend it was so quiet we hardly met a soul all week. What I also enjoyed were the great places en route, pretty villages, eccentric cafes, restaurants in barges. For reference, our first walk was the Dales Highway (also thoroughly recommended) and The South Downs Way (some terrific walking, but much the same each day).
