Loch Callater
Route: Loch Callater near Braemar
Date walked: 31/07/2021
Time taken: 3.25 hours
Distance: 11.5km
Ascent: 138m
Picked this route as a low intensity hike, and it was ideal for my energy level today! Pleasant flat route through the moor alongside the burn, with nice views of the surrounding hills. Good firm ground all the way to the loch, where there was the occasional boggy patch to negotiate, but in each case there were well spaced rocks, so my feet, and indeed my shoes stayed dry. I investigated the river crossing on the far side of the loch, but it was too deep for my footwear to cope with today, so returned back the route I came.
