Dangerous rockfalls and erosion
Route: Isle of Luing and the Slate Quarries
Date walked: 03/02/2024
Distance: 5.5km
Luing Community Council warns all walkers to avoid the coastal section between Port Mary and Cullipool. Due to significant erosion and recent rockfalls this is too dangerous to walk safely, especially at high tide. There is a much better route, with great views out to the Garvellachs and Colonsay, by following the track inland from Port Mary, taking the first gate to the south, and following the track and then path up to the ridge above Cullipool, then descending behind the old church. It's a well walked track and path so route cannot be missed. A further short detour to the trig point above Cullipool gives even more extensive views.
