Boot Failure on Beinn Fhionnlaidh
Route: Beinn Fhionnlaidh
Munros: Beinn Fhionnlaidh
Date walked: 27/06/2021
Time taken: 7 hours
Distance: 14km
Ascent: 959m
We followed the official WalkHighlands route for this munro from Elleric, Glen Creran.
From the official carpark.do not be tempted to take private road as they are not long coming out to chase you (we needed to do this due to total boot failure of my daughters walking boots at the end of the walk). We had kept them together thankfully long enough to get off the hill my using socks on the outside as the sole was coming away. The rock slabs nearer the top cut away at the socks so by the time we got back to the landrover track the boots were more like flip flops
The other thing worthy of note is there is no water to be had on this walk - no burns to replenish your water bottle.
Luckily I had my 2 Sherpas with me, daughter Megan assigned the camera equipment and her boyfriend Gregor the food and copious amounts of liquids.
We started off at 11:40am after our drive from the Central Belt. Stopping off at Arrochar, Inverary, Kilchurn castle and St Conans Kirk. We were back on the road to find a comping spot at 7:30pm.
The midges only caught up with us on the summit as it was totally calm and we ate up there. The clegs on the other hand were relentless all the way.
I never took photos on the way up but took a shed load at the summit due to the wonderful 360 degree munro fest!
Also a 360 degree sweep from the top where I try and name all of the nearest munros.
