Far from the seaside crowds
Route: Greeto Mast and the Gogo Glen, Largs
Date walked: 10/10/2021
Time taken: 1.25 hours
Distance: 4.5km
We walked this short route in calm, cloudy conditions with blustery showers not far away. Typical Scottish autumn weather.
The very steep ascent allows great views of Largs, the Firth of Clyde and the ferries crossing to Cumbrae and Bute. That view of the islands including Arran is hard to get tired of. Having past the top mast, extensive tree planting was in evidence on the other side of the glen so the environment will change in time, but good to see this improvement to the landscape.
The path alongside the Gogo Burn was rather wet and muddy in places, particularly where the small burns adopted it as their course, but it was never a real problem. The path is becoming somewhat overgrown with bramble and gorse and would benefit from a few more walkers to maintain the route. The path feels like a well kept secret.
All in all a very pleasant short walk with plenty of interest and good to combine with a stroll along the Largs seafront and some refreshments in one of the many cafes for a fine afternoon by the coast.
