what glorious day
Started the walk at 10.30am. The weather was probably the best we've had so far this year, barely a cloud in the sky. There were six other cars parked up when we left, it seems to be a popular walk. At the first cattle grid we came across a lamb stuck down underneath the bars, it managed to scramble clear but ended up on the wrong side of the fence from its mother. The first lift looked pretty daunting on approach, we could see a couple near the top and one guy only a couple of hundred yards in front. we gave ourselves an hour from the turn off to reach the first top. Plugging away with only a couple of stops for breath we were on Carn Liath at 12.20.

nearly at the top
we met one guy coming off on his way back down and another sitting behind the cairn listening to a wind up radio, ( l think l'd be bad for buying some batteries ha ha ). We decided to have a spot of lunch just below top of Beinn Mhaol before we dropped down to the bealach.

lunch stop was imminent
Our lift onto the second top took us 35 mins

we didn't hang about too long on that one and headed off for the last top of the day. Tiredness was starting to get into the legs and we weren't even at our farthest point. On our last lift we met Radioman coming down and he wished us all the best, also saying we didn't have far to go. We summit-ed at 15.10 where we had the rest of our lunch box, I'd ran out of water by this stage but still had half a flask of bovril and a small box of apple juice.

The views over to the Cairngorms was superb, there's still a lot of snow lying on them above about 3200 feet. It was kind of strange seeing them all engulfed in snow apart from the Devils Point which just scrapes above the 3000 ft mark. It really is a massive collection of hills up about and above the 4000 ft mark. our target when leaving the summit at 15.45 was to be back to car for 18.00.

Off we went down to the bealach at the 862 mts height. I got my platypus filled up in the burn on the way down. we thought we were making good time but didn't realize just how far from the starting point Carn nan Ghaber is. Our navigation was good and took the shortest route back to the car, the track was very dry and dusty. We made it back at 18.40. 8hours and 10 mins was okay for us and we thoroughly enjoyed the walk. Three big lifts, two descents and a long walk out made it a day to remember and also got the sun tan topped up in the process
