Beinn Sciathain - a small hill with big views
Sub 2000s: Beinn Sciathain (Eriskay)
Date walked: 17/08/2022
Time taken: 0.92 hour
Distance: 2.7km
Ascent: 150m
I drove down from Locheport in North Uist to Eriskay and parked in the lay-by at NF 787107.
I crossed the road and headed directly uphill threading my way through some rocky outcrops. After crossing a small rise I reached a gate in the fence that provided the first clue that there was a path up Beinn Sciathain. I followed the trodden way beyond the gate and up the obvious grassy ramp.
This path lead easily to the summit skirting a boggy area just below the summit.
The views to Barra, Canna, the Rum and Skye Cuillins and the South Uist hills fully justify the viewfinder on the summit trig point and the way marked path.
After enjoying the views and exploring the upper parts of the hill I followed the trodden path back to the fence and on down to the road and a wooden viewfinder set in a circular stone wall with a seat.
The section of the path between this viewfinder and the gate in the fence is marked with a few posts.
A short walk and a great wee hill with fabulous views.
