M#13-14 Meall Corranaich, Meall a'Choire Leith t'other way

Route: Meall Corranaich and Meall a'Choire Lèith

Munros: Meall a' Choire Lèith, Meall Corranaich

Date walked: 03/05/2014

Time taken: 5 hours

After Ben Lui yesterday it was a bit of a struggle to get out of bed with tired little legs but the forecast was to turn to rain later so we wanted to get going while the getting was good. Last time up Ben Lawers was mostly spent trying to peer through the mist, but today it's looking good. So that's what Ben Lawers looks like!

Bearing the weather in mind Big Bob suggested we go from the Ben Lawers car park and then reassess at Meall Corranaich and maybe go down to the road at the other end. With my little legs and the legendary depth of bog in mind, that suited me. Plus we got to go through the lovely NTS sheep excluded reserve and made some new friends.

Lovely and warm heading up Edramucky burn, with first taste of snow at the top of the glen.

Fantastic views along the Lawers range - lots of people going up there them snowy slopes

Steep but remarkably short climb to the first summit. Too easy it seems and found some more friends to play with.

. The weather was still looking pretty good and we really hadn't been going long so we headed onwards, down through a lovely patch of soft snow (taking a wee detour away from the edge of Coire Liath!

Meall a Choire Leith didn't look so far away from here, and it was a lovely spring bounce down the moss to the beallach and up the other side.

. Nice to have another summit that didn't hide behind lots of false summits for a change!

The clouds were starting to darken but not lowering so we thought to take advantage of the visibility and enjoy the views on the way back the same way. We did feel like we'd earned the two munros by the end - and I'd forgotten to have my photo taken at Meall Corranaich so just as well!
