Walk the foggy Ben Lomond
Route: Ben Lomond
Munros: Ben Lomond
Date walked: 15/09/2018
Time taken: 4.5 hours
Distance: 12km
I did some hill walking in Bavaria for the last 30-40 years, but never did a Munro so far. After a while of studying which ones are easy to get a first impression, I choose the Ben Lomond. So here is the review of my FIRST MUNRO!
I was prepared with good shoes (climbing boots), some weather proof outfit and a backpack (day size) with water plus the recommended utilities.
The parking spot was easy to find and if you are early enough there is space to park. On the way up I was surprised about a lot of groups (having some fun with T-Shirts, Sheep Caps and other "group items") and families with little kids. Some tourists with very easy shoes. It was called a "family munro" on some articles, but some of the kids lost their fun (I would have lost walking with wellies as well).
Some spots were quite steep but allover it was a easy walk for me. The top was totally in clouds (I was prepared that this will happen). For those who never did this before: be prepared it will get cold (I was walking 15.09.18) if you are in a cloud. Some were better prepared than I and wore some reflecting material to give others a clue where the way is. If you never did a hill walk before, I would not recommend to start with a Munro.
