A quick circuit of Gowbarrow Fell before the rain came.

For the last day of our mini break I had big plans to do Skiddaw from the cottage, the weather had other ideas
The forecast for Tuesday was rain early on, brightening up around 11:00am before more rain in the afternoon, so, what to we do?
We had time to have a wander up Gowbarrow Fell, the views from the top over Ullswater and towards the eastern fells and the far eastern fells would be worth the effort if we got there before the weather front arrived.
Our route was going to take about two to three hours, enough time to stay dry and at least we'd be out in the fresh air
We used the car this time, parked up in the N.T carpark just south of Dockray
Start of the walk, just across the road from the car park
We set off down the path towards the upper falls where there's a footbridge over Aira Beck, we used the bridge and then went left onto the Ullswater way.
This is a well used path with finger posts pointing the way to Gowbarrow Fell. About 0.5km from the bridge the path heads uphill along side a wall, very soggy to start with thankfully though, it looks like there are ongoing improvements to the path where there's a zig and a zag being put in skirting a bad stretch.
This is probably one of the less demanding Wainwright summits to reach, it is, however, a grand little hill with great views.
On the top there's lumps and bumps an interesting place to explore, in the mist I can imagine the terrain would be a little confusing if you wander off one of the paths but, even then, if you're careful and pay attention to the map you'll find the Ullswater Way from any direction.
From the summit we took the Ullswater Way heading east following it as it skirts around the hill, I was hoping to have some nice views further round as we progressed, we were not disappointed
It's a nice easy path to follow, there's a bit of a viewpoint just a short way from the memorial seat marked on the OS map and from there you get some really nice views, a lake and mountains, a bit subdued today by the approaching front but good all the same
We continued round towards the falls deciding whether or not to visit them when we got there, as it turned out I think we must have been thinking of other things because we were on our way back to the car before we'd even thought about the main falls we did manage some of them though
From the falls we took the path that runs along the west side of Aira Beck, this took us back to the bridge we went over at the start of the walk where we turned left up the hill back to the car park.
No problem with the weather, in fact it was better than expected, we had sunshine Another nice little walk, very enjoyable.
Spring is here summer's coming, where does the time go???
