A Damp and Dreich Cairn William
Route: Cairn William, Pitfitchie Forest, near Alford
Sub 2000s: Cairn William
Date walked: 21/07/2018
Time taken: 4 hours
Distance: 16km
Ascent: 596m
Weather Conditions
The weather was extremely mild and muggy. Lots of dew sitting as we made our way up to the summit made for a soggy ascent - just a good job I decided to stick on the waterproofs! Scenes at the top were... ordinary and of course it cleared as we came back down
Walk Experience
As you can probably tell from my above description of the weather conditions, Cairn William was fairly uneventful for us on Saturday, shrouded in low lying, soggy clouds - more like the kind of Scottish Summer we're used to! I was fully aware that it was only a matter of time until we'd luck out with all of the glorious weather we've had for my previous walk reports in recent weeks.
One thing I will say however - minus the fact we've bagged another hill regardless - is that Cairn William was teeming with all-sorts of wildlife, which made for good fun regardless of the scenery at the top. I'm just glad it wasn't a Munro I dragged myself up in that humidity for those "scenes"!
