My first foray into Munro bagging - Mayar and Driesh

Route: Mayar and Driesh, Glen Clova

Munros: Driesh, Mayar

Date walked: 11/07/2020

Time taken: 6 hours

Distance: 21.28km

Ascent: 819m

My first taste of Munro bagging on a lovely post-lockdown afternoon - apologies in advance for the portrait-oriented photos...

Our intended start point was Glen Doll Car Park but this was a busy day and we ran into traffic being turned back. We retreated also and managed to bag one of the few remaining spaces in the car park at Clova. Oddly enough only the female toilets were open. After a bathroom break we set off with an unintended extra 5.5km added to our walk - but given it was only 10:43 we knew we had plenty of time for the walk and to get back to Edinburgh before nightfall.

While I found the section in Corrie Fee Nature Reserve rising to the left of the waterfall (with an ascent of 450m) tough - including some false summits on the approach to Mayar - the rest of the walk was much easier with some superb views. Upon returning to Glen Doll Car Park we managed to persuade a kind soul to drive one of us back to Clova and pick up the car.

Here's to the next 280!

Well laid forest trails starting from Glen Doll Car Park

A lovely waterfall to appreciate for a moment on the toughest part of the walk

Glorious views at the summit of Mayar with clouds adding some contrast (not to mention a welcome distraction from an appallingly haggard lockdown beard)

Celebration beer at the summit of Driesh

Some four legged friends on the way back down

Some nice craggy features to appreciate on the trek back to the car park
