Sunny morning in Arrochar

Route: Beinn Narnain and Beinn Ìme

Munros: Beinn Narnain

Date walked: 27/04/2013

Time taken: 4 hours

Ascent: 926m

After a few frustrating weeks waiting for the snow to shift it was time for the second hill-day of the year. Time was limited so a solo-trek to Arrochar to climb Narnain was the plan.

Crossing the Forth Road Bridge I noticed the Pentlands had turned white again overnight so was unsure what I'd find on the other side of the country. But heading around Loch Long it was clear that conditions were fine.

Set off from the car park at Succoth at 8.40 and after only a few yards on the Cobbler path I took the sharp right which takes you directly up the hillside towards Narnain. From there it was a steep pull - not much chance to warm the legs up but height was gained quickly. The path was more like a stream for this early part of the walk - and very slippy - so I decided I'd make my descent on the other side of the hill and back via the main Cobbler path.

About half way up there's a brief mild-scrambling section before finding a path again where the Cobbler comes into view. Beinn Narnain was soon in sight.

The final pull was a nice wee scramble. A few patches of snow around but all pretty straightforward. Summit was soon reached and I was able to enjoy it to myself!

The Cobbler path back to the car was as busy as the path up had been quiet. Lots of people enjoying the sunshine and they were rewarded with some cracking views of the Cobbler.

Back at the car for half twelve. Excellent morning in great conditions. A great warm up for Torridon at the end of next week!
